Recycling material identification method for plastic products

Recycling material identification method for plastic products:

There are too many plastic products in our daily process that can be recycled and reused. For newcomers to the recycled plastics industry, identifying plastics is the most basic and most important point.

The five major plastic products are the most common, and of course there are many ways to distinguish them. We can distinguish them according to their uses, raw materials, and density.

The first simple method of distinction is the unified method of our country and the world, that is to use the common plastic recycling signs to distinguish.

In order to uniformly distinguish plastics and facilitate recycling, there is a unified international mark to distinguish them.

However, although this method of distinction is simple and easy, sometimes the marks on the products are difficult to identify due to time and other reasons, and experience and knowledge are required at this time.

We can also distinguish according to the use. The use method of polyethylene and polypropylene has some similarities, and ABS and PS also have some similarities. The distinction is not particularly fine.

Polyethylene PE

Common products: such as industrial films, agricultural films, convenience bags, etc. And low pressure can be used for packaging, injection molding, hollow and so on.

Polypropylene PP

Common products are more used for injection molding

polystyrene PS

The main use of common products is injection molding.

Polyvinyl chloride PVC

Common products: PVC hooks, pipes, packaging sticker hooks, sheet hooks, and more stamping products.

Polyethylene terephthalate PET

Common products: belt hooks, injection molding, etc.

We can also distinguish according to the appearance and feel. Plastics are seen a lot, and the main components of the base can be known at a glance. Therefore, the appearance is also very important.

PE (Chinese name: polyethylene)

Sensory identification: soft to the touch: white and transparent, but the transparency is average, often with tape and printed words. (Note: tape and printed words are unavoidable, but their content must be controlled, because these will affect the price in the market)

When unpigmented, it is milky white, translucent and waxy; the product feels smooth when touched by hand, flexible and flexible; it can stretch slightly. Generally, low-density polyethylene is softer and has better transparency; high-density polyethylene is harder.

PP (polypropylene):

Sensory identification: This product is white and transparent. Compared with LDPE, the transparency is higher, and there is a sound when rubbing.

White translucent, waxy when unpigmented; lighter than polyethylene. The transparency is also better than that of polyethylene, and it is harder than polyethylene.

PVC film (polychlorine)

The natural color is light yellow, translucent and shiny. The transparency is better than that of polyethylene and polystyrene, but worse than that of polystyrene. It is divided into soft and hard polyvinyl chloride according to the dosage of additives. Soft products are flexible and tough, and feel sticky. The hardness of hard products is higher than that of low-density polyethylene. , while lower than polypropylene, whitening occurs at the inflection point.

polystyrene PS

Transparent when unpigmented. When the product is dropped or tapped, it has a metal-like crisp sound, good luster and transparency, similar to glass, brittle and easy to break, and the surface of the product can be scratched with fingernails. Modified polystyrene is opaque.

Polyethylene terephthalate PET

The transparency is very good, the strength and toughness are better than that of polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride, and it is not easy to break. White and transparent, hard to the touch, and there is a sound when rubbing. It looks like PP.

According to the use, there are some similarities between polyethylene and polypropylene, and there are some similarities between ABS and PS, and the distinction is not particularly fine.
