The design of the gating system includes the selection of the main runner, the determination of the cross-sectional shape and size of the runner, the selection of the position of the gate, the determination of the gate form and the size of the gate section. When designing a gating system, the first step is to select the location of the gate. The selection of the gate location is directly related to the product molding quality and the smooth progress of the injection process. The selection of the gate location should follow the following principles:

①The location of the gate should be selected as far as possible on the parting surface, so as to facilitate the cleaning of the gate during mold processing and use;

②The distance between the gate position and each part of the cavity should be as consistent as possible, and the tooling process should be the shortest;

③The position of the gate should ensure that when the plastic flows into the cavity, it is wide and thick-walled in the cavity, so that the plastic can flow smoothly;

④The gate position should be set at the thickest part of the plastic part;

⑤ Prevent the plastic from hitting the cavity wall, core or insert when it flows down the cavity, so that the plastic can flow into all parts of the cavity as soon as possible, and avoid deformation of the core or insert;

⑥ Try to avoid making the product weld lines, or make the weld lines appear in unimportant parts of the product;

⑦ The location of the gate and the inflow direction of the plastic should make the plastic flow into the cavity evenly along the parallel direction of the cavity, which is conducive to the discharge of the gas in the cavity;

⑧The gate should be set on the most easily removed part of the product, and at the same time, it should not affect the appearance of the product as much as possible.
